According to a report from the New York Post, some migrants are leaving New York City and traveling north to Canada via taxpayer-funded buses.
Some migrants have expressed to the New York Post that they would prefer to go to Canada for better opportunities and lower rates of homelessness and drug abuse. One Venezuelan migrant reported to the New York Post that they received free bus tickets from the military. Another migrant said they were previously residing at the Row Hotel near Times Square, but were later sent to a homeless shelter in Brooklyn.
A whistleblower at the Row Hotel has reported incidents of trashing, drug use, and domestic violence among the migrants. Manuel Rodon, a migrant from Venezuela, told the New York Post that he believes Canada will be safer than New York City.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has requested assistance from the White House regarding the large number of migrants that have been bussed to the city in recent years. The mayor’s press office has also made efforts to support the migrants, including offering free roundtrip tickets on a NYC ferry.
